Pizza chain, Round Table Pizza, has officially rolled out a new location on Maui, at the Maui Mall Village in Kahului.

The chain was launched in partnership with franchisee, Dave Mello, who is relocating from his long-time presence in Kīhei on Piʻikea Avenue at the Piʻilani Village Shopping Center. The Kīhei location has since closed.

The new Round Table Pizza is located across from the County of Maui Business Resource Center, and near IHOP in the spot that was previously occupied by another pizza chain.

Round Table Pizza was founded in 1959, and is known for its homemade dough, signature three-cheese blend, and ingredients topped to the edge. In addition to signature handmade pizzas, the chain also offers salads, “baked-to-perfection” Garlic Parmesan Twists, classic and boneless wings and more.

“Our legacy of time-honored recipes and gold-standard ingredients means guests can count on a consistent, superior dining experience each time they visit,” said Mello, franchisee of the new Kahului location.

“Maui Mall Village is pleased to welcome Round Table Pizza to the ʻohana,” said Maui Mall Village Property Manager James Cashman. “Round Table will offer yet another great family-friendly dining option for our community. It will be an excellent complement to our already diverse portfolio of dining experiences, and we invite everyone to visit the center to see what makes this storied franchise so special.”

The business is currently hiring for all positions—both full and part time. Applicants can send resumes to jubemello@yahoo.com. Starting pay is $15/hr plus tips. Drivers can make more than $30/hr with tips, according to a flyer posted in the restaurant window.

This is Maui’s second Round Table Pizza location. There’s also another in Lahaina, located at 2580 Kekaʻa Dr., Suite 105, which is also run by Mello.

The new Maui Round Table Pizza is located at 70 East Kaʻahumanu Avenue in Kahului, and is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Fairmont Kea Lani launches oceanfront culinary concept at AMA Bar & Grill https://mauinow.com/2023/07/16/fairmont-kea-lani-launches-oceanfront-culinary-concept-at-ama-bar-grill/ https://mauinow.com/2023/07/16/fairmont-kea-lani-launches-oceanfront-culinary-concept-at-ama-bar-grill/#respond Sun, 16 Jul 2023 17:55:48 +0000 https://admin.mauinow.com/?p=421209

Fairmont Kea Lani, an all-suite and villa luxury resort on Maui, brings an elevated dinner experience to their current oceanfront restaurant, AMA Bar & Grill.

AMA draws inspiration from the traditional Hawaiian outrigger canoe and the lifestyle it embodies: quality time with ʻohana, exploration and innovation through the sea, and the nourishment with the ocean’s freshest seafood.

Each evening, as the sun sets, AMA Bar & Grill transforms from a poolside eatery into a sea-to-table culinary experience, offering freshly caught seafood selections along with vibrant cocktails and elevated wines by the glass and bottle.

From a decadent raw bar and lavish seafood platters to locally inspired platesfeaturing Kauaʻi spicy garlic prawns, miso-marinated cod and steamed clams with sake, shiso and Korean chili flakes, AMA’s new dinner menu highlights the Pacific Ocean’s finest offerings – along with island-sourced veggie dishes and select chicken and steak shared plates.

“We’re thrilled to share AMA’s new ocean-inspired evening concept with our community,” said Tom Houston, Director of Food & Beverage at Fairmont Kea Lani.  “Our intention is to provide a relaxed atmosphere fit for unwinding with friends and family, where both resort guests and local residents can enjoy carefully crafted cocktails, thoughtful wine selections, and freshly caught, elevated fare… all while taking in spectacular views provided by this special place we are privileged to call home.”

AMA’s new evening concept, serving casual elegance paired with exceptional cuisine, debuted on July 14, 2023. This comes following the recent transformation of the resort’s 413 one-bedroom suites and 37 two- and three-bedroom villas. Resort executives say the redesign resulted in artfully accommodations “that evoke stories of the island’s rich cultural heritage and accentuate the natural beauty of Hawaiʻi.”

AMA’s debut also marks the commencement of the second phase of the resort’s Hoʻomaka Hou Transformation Project, in which Fairmont Kea Lani’s lobby will be completely reimagined, resulting in an elevated arrival experience, the creation of an expansive Hawaiian cultural center and the addition of a premier oceanfront lounge and restaurant.

AMA Bar & Grill is open daily for lunch 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and nightly for dinner 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Both the interior bar and swim-up bar are open 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Kamaʻāina discounts (25% off) are available with a valid Hawaiʻi ID. Walk-ins welcome, reservations are encouraged through OpenTable or learn more at fairmont-kea-lani.com

Reserving a table is a desirable option for those who would like to be seated with their family, friends, or business associates. There are numerous premium benefits for table attendees, depending on table tier: reserved seating, preferred parking, table-side service for dinner and beverages, special thank-you gifts, pre-event private reception and opportunity to preview and bid on auction items.

Individual tickets for Maui Calls are $195 for a ‘cruiser’ pass; $225, $300 or $500 for table seating. Tables for 10 are $2,250; $3,000; $5,000; and $10,000. All tickets allow the Maui Calls guest access to the many creations of Maui’s participating restaurants and chefs and the chance to sample a variety of both new wines and old favorites; the table tickets offer table seating and service, and special gifts (depending on level).

Table sponsorship levels and inclusions are detailed on the Maui Calls page at MauiArts.org or at mauiarts.ejoinme.org/MauiCalls. Tables and individual ticket sales are on sale now and placing silent auction bids starts Aug. 7 and all are only available online at mauiarts.ejoinme.org/MauiCalls or via the MACC’s Development department. Guests can register in advance to bid via their smartphone or mobile device on the same website and bidding volunteers will be on site at the event to assist.

Table sales and individual ticket purchases are not available through the MACC Box Office. Table reservations may also be coordinated via email or phone to Naoko Wagner: Naoko@MauiArts.org / 808-243-4225.

Maui Calls is the annual fundraiser for the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and provides a significant percentage of the income necessary for the MACC to provide ongoing FREE programs for the community such as Starry Night Cinema, ArT=Mixx, the annual Ki Ho‘alu and ‘Ukulele Festivals, and performances for Maui County schoolchildren, including students on Moloka‘i and Lānaʻi.

Maui Country Club welcomes new Executive Chef Doug DeMarco https://mauinow.com/2023/07/06/maui-country-club-welcomes-new-executive-chef-doug-demarco/ https://mauinow.com/2023/07/06/maui-country-club-welcomes-new-executive-chef-doug-demarco/#respond Thu, 06 Jul 2023 22:22:05 +0000 https://admin.mauinow.com/?p=420210
Executive Chef Doug DeMarco

The Maui Country Club announced the hire of new Executive Chef Doug DeMarco.

Chef DeMarco describes his cooking style as Contemporary American. He joins the Maui Country Club from his most recent position as the Executive Chef at Ruby 360 in Nevada, one of the oldest helicopter ski resorts in the country.

Early on in Chef DeMarco’s working experience, one of his mentors convinced him that he should become a chef. Taking this advice, he attended and graduated from the California Culinary Academy.

From there, Chef DeMarco had the opportunity to travel the country, giving him the chance to experience a variety of cuisine and work with world renown chefs, most notably: Chef Roland Passot – La Folie; Chef George Marrone – Aqua and One Market; Chef Giovanni Perticone – Splendidos; and Chef Bradley Ogden – The Lark Creek Inn.

In addition to his culinary experience, Chef DeMarco also has had the opportunity to cook for many celebrities.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Chef DeMarco’s love for the sea, and all it has to offer, fueled his long time goal of moving to Hawaiʻi. He enjoys spending his free time outdoors— hiking, biking or scuba diving.

Chef DeMarco said he looks forward to carrying on the legacy at the Maui Country Club, and is excited about getting to know and cook for all its members.

Maui Country Club‘s is a private golf club on the north shore, located at 48 Nonohe Place in Pāʻia.

In recognition of its 29th anniversary, Hula Grill Kāʻanapali will make a donation to a local hālau hula, and relaunch its popular bar menu.

“We are so incredibly grateful and excited to be celebrating 29 years of service to the people of Maui,” said Hula Grill Kāʻanapali General Manager Amber Compton. “As we prepare for our big 30th anniversary, we wanted to give back to the community and expand our offerings to say mahalo for dining with us since our opening in 1994. Guests can now choose some fun and casual selections from our Barefoot Bar menu or more elevated dishes—like fresh fish, steaks and seafood—from the dining room menu.”

The Hula Grill Kāʻanapali marked its anniversary with a $1,500 donation to Hālau Kekuaokalā‘au‘ala‘iliahi, led by Kumu Hula ‘Iliahi and Haunani Paredes. Students, leaders and parents from the group were invited to a special anniversary event at Hula Grill, where they enjoyed food and drinks including Maui-made Roselani ice cream and cocktails crafted by Koloa Rum and Ocean Vodka.

Hālau Kekuaokalā‘au‘ala‘iliahi has performed for spectators from near and far, participated in the annual Merrie Monarch Festival and helped to nurture the next generation of hula dancers. Funds from the donation will be used to support the hālau as they head to upcoming keiki hula competitions, ensuring the tradition of hula can be passed on by many generations to come.

In addition to the donation, the popular Barefoot Bar menu has returned and is available every day from 4-9:30 p.m. Guests are invited to enjoy longtime favorites like Surfing Goat Cheese or Thai Chicken Flatbread, the Hula Cheeseburger, Fish Tacos and more.

The Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, debuts its newly reimagined dining concept, Olivine, today. This comes following the recent refresh of four additional onsite culinary venues, and a property-wide revamp of the resort’s rooms, suites and exclusive Napua private lounge.

The opening of Olivine spurs the next phase of the refresh, including a full renovation of the resort’s flagship Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa dining venue, followed by the debut of Grand Wailea’s reimagined spa in the coming year.

Olivine specializes in coastal Italian cuisine prepared with local ingredients, as well as craft cocktails and an expansive wine list.

“We are incredibly excited to share this new dining experience with our guests,” said JP Oliver, managing director, Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. “The resort’s property-wide refresh has given us the opportunity to reimagine the Grand Wailea experience, and Olivine is a perfect example of how that will manifest in our food and beverage programming. We’ve been highly meticulous during this process to ensure that every change we implement aligns with our commitment to a retreat grounded in harmony, and we couldn’t be happier to see it come to life for our guests.”

Olivine is located in the oceanfront venue that formerly housed Bistro Molokini. The space has a new look inspired by its namesake mineral, which is shaped by the steady flow of lava. The reimagined space is the work of Tihany Design.

“We’re thrilled to welcome guests to Olivine, and look forward to sharing the hard work that’s gone into creating this one-of-a-kind experience at Grand Wailea,” said Executive Chef Ryan Urig, Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort. “The new concept brings the best of Maui ingredients to the art of Italian cuisine, and the result is a menu that beautifully showcases our island’s sustainably sourced seafood, while evoking a sense of place. We can’t wait for guests to experience the best of Maui and beyond at this new concept.”

The Italian menu features handmade pastas by Chef Michele di Bari of Sale Pepe, and authentic dishes incorporating local produce and seafood sourced from Hawaiʻi-based, sustainable aquaculture operation Blue Ocean Mariculture.

To highlight the array of herbs grown on property by the resort’s Head Landscaper Jim Heid, the menu includes a seasonal initiative that infuses them into menu items, olive oils, cocktails and more to reflect the bounty provided by the resort’s lush vegetation.

Signature menu items include Molokaʻi sweet potato ravioli with lemon almond pesto, cacio e pepe prepared with tonnarelli, Parmigiano Reggiano, pepper and caviar, Hawaiian Kanpachi crudo plated with aged pancetta, smoky Romanesco, candied kumquats and ogo, and a selection of woodfired pizzas topped with seasonal ingredients.

Olivine shifts from a vibrant, airy daytime eatery to an atmospheric, sultry dining spot in the evening. By day, guests savor signature dishes such as housemade pizzas and ‘ahi salad, while night brings Blue Ocean seafood dishes and fresh pastas. A selection of dinner-specific craft cocktails and a sommelier-curated master wine list become available with the setting sun, enabling guests to experience menus that are tailored to the time of day.

Olivine opens to the public on June 20, 2023, and is available for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., intermezzo 3 to 5 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome; however, reservations are encouraged online.
